Animals in the Tropics
In the Museum of Nature Hamburg - Zoology , we open a window to Humboldt's animal life - to the Andean condor, exotic monkeys and the electric eel, for example. See how artistically the explorer drew the animals of South America and explore with us where Humboldt's biogeography actually has its roots. Slip with us into the role of the explorer of that time and learn why it was a matter of life and death for Humboldt in Hamburg.
Botany on the move
At the Botanical Garden and Loki Schmidt Haus, with the support of the Herbarium Hamburgense, we share Humboldt's comprehensive view of the lush and diverse vegetation of South America. We will show plants that Humboldt and his companion Bonpland collected in Venezuela over 200 years ago. We transfer Humboldt's nature paintings of the Andes to the Alps and try, among other things, to understand how he measured, researched and thought.
The exhibition section "Botany in Motion" was developed by the University of Bern and integrated in parts into the facilities of the Hamburg Botanical Garden.
