Citizen Science
In a series of actions and projects, LIB invites citizens to inform themselves about the animal and plant communities in Hamburg and the surrounding area and to observe and scientifically document them. With this knowledge that citizens provide, they make an active contribution to sustainable nature conservation and environmental protection in Hamburg. The hands-on activities and information events also teach biological working methods and research approaches and discuss the way of life of individual animal and plant species. Citizen science approaches have great potential to generate data that can be used for scientific and conservation purposes.
Together with the University of Hamburg and the BürgerStiftung, LIB researchers have launched a portal where all nature lovers can report alien or even invasive species. On neobiota-hamburg.de you will find further information on species that have already been identified as alien to Hamburg and the surrounding area, as well as the opportunity to report your own findings directly.
