Research Interests
Meine Forschungsinteressen liegen im Bereich der Taxonomie, Diversität und Zoogeografie von Spinnen. Ich interessiere mich insbesondere für die Entdeckung und wissenschaftliche Beschreibung von Arten und analysiere deren Evolution und Verbreitung durch Zeit und Raum. Dabei wende ich Konzepte der Ökologie, Evolutionsbiologie, Geologie und physischen Geografie an und kombiniere diese je nach Forschungsprojekt in ein größeres Ganzes. In den letzten Jahren habe ich vor allem an der Spinnen-Fauna Ecuadors geforscht und viele neue Arten beschrieben. Ecuador ist eines der artenreichsten Lände der Erde aber leider auch ein sogenannter Biodiversitäts-Hotspot und von Umweltzerstörung stark bedroht. Die Fauna der Spinnen ist dort weitestgehend unerforscht und die bisher beschriebenen 560 Arten sind nur ein Bruchteil der dort tatsächlich vorkommenden Spinnen-Fauna. Ziel meiner momentanen Arbeit ist es die Spinnen dieses Landes zu dokumentieren und ihre Evolutionsgeschichte zu verstehen. Damit möchte ich helfen eine Grundlage für den effektiven Naturschutz in diesem einzigartigen Land zu schaffen.
