Our special exhibition "Humboldt Alive!" accompanied the German naturalist from the beginning of May to the end of September 2019 on the occasion of his 250th birthday on his most important research trip to America in the years 1799-1804. We followed Humboldt to the tropics and the Andes, highlighting his findings and legacy. The exhibition section "Animals in the Tropics" in the Museum of Nature - Zoology has opened Humboldt's view on the animal world of South America: Which animals did he draw and describe, what role did animal geography play for him? Other focal points were Humboldt's references to Hamburg and the execution of the expedition.
