ZM 004 | Dinosaurs and their relatives: crocodiles, birds, lizards and snakes
Dinosaurs populated large parts of the earth from 230 million to 66 million years ago. Most impressive are the large specimens of the Tyrannosaurus Rex, which grew up to 14 metres long and 6 metres high, or the giant herbivorous sauropods. But the world of dinosaurs also consisted of other animals such as pterosaurs, piscine dinosaurs - one of which can be seen as a model and fossil - flipper lizards and mosasaurs. In this guided tour, the most important data about the dinosaurs are presented. Then the path of evolution of the dinosaurs to the close and distant relatives of the dinosaurs, the crocodiles and birds, lizards and snakes is followed and explained.
Note
In the Geological-Palaeontological Museum in the Geomatikum (Bundesstrasse 55) there is a very good cast of a Tarbosaur skeleton. This museum is open during the semester from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 6 pm and on Saturdays from 9 am to 12 noon. A visit to this collection makes a good complement to the museum talk.
