Whip scorpions are an order of arachnids with roughly 110 species that occur in Asia, western Africa and America. These animals resemble scorpions in general appearance but lack the sting and have a whip-like tail instead. Whip scorpions can discharge an acetic liquid when disturbed and are sometime referred to as “vinegaroons”. The LIB collection comprises 30 species of which nine are represented by type material. All specimens were collected in southeast Asia and the Pacific, and described by Karl Kraepelin at the Hamburg Museum in the late 19th century.
