Tardigrades, or water bears, are an enigmatic phylum of micro-arthropods. These water-dwelling animals have eight legs and are found in mosses or lichens but occur everywhere from the deep sea to tropical rainforests and the Antarctic. The LIB collections comprise more than 200 species and 50 types. This collection was established by the former curator of the department, Dr. Hieronymus Dastych, and is continually growing. Overall, this collection represents the full breadth of global tardigrade diversity and offers a fascinating insight into this poorly-known group of animals.
