The family Zoarcidae (eelpouts), a group of marine and mostly bottom-dwelling fishes, contains about 300 fish species. 230 of these species belong to the subfamily Lycodinae which is the focus of our research. Some of the Lycodinae species occur at great depth in the deep sea. In the framework of our investigations we are describing new eelpout species from the deep sea, especially from the genus Lycenchelys. Actually, this genus contains more than 60 species and is the second largest genus of the zoarcid subfamily Lycodinae. The genus Lycenchelys has the largest distribution area among the eelpouts.
