Taxonomy and systematics of reptiles

Research in the field of reptiles is conducted by Dr Hallermann. The current revision of the Lamprophis fuliginosus complex (African house snakes) includes comparative morphological analyses with material from various European museums. In parallel, DNA material, mostly from fresh tissue, is analysed molecularly (cooperation Natural History Museum Geneva). With the morphological-molecular genetic data set, populations are taxonomically assigned and new species are described. Another focus of interest is the taxonomy and biogeography of Southeast Asian agamas of the genera Bronchocela, Calotes, Pseudocalotes. Several new species have been described and distribution data as well as identification keys for the region have been compiled.
