What is What: Reading & discovery day with author Dr Stefan Peters

Sparkling gemstones, mysterious rocks from outer space and minerals found in smartphones - all this and much more will be the focus when Dr Stefan Peters, Head of Mineralogy, reads from his new book "WAS IST WAS: Minerals and Rocks - Treasures of Nature". Short reading passages and a lively lecture will provide insights into the formation of minerals, the diversity of rocks and the special features of rare raw materials.

Afterwards, books are signed, artefacts are examined by experts and minerals and rocks from the book are presented in more detail at information stations. The afternoon also offers the opportunity to find out more, try things out and discover the mineral world of the museum. The end is open-ended so that the urge to discover can be indulged to the full.

With exciting stories, impressive pictures and many moments of discovery, this event shows the fascinating world of minerals and rocks in all their diversity. Admission is free.
