Guided Tour: Nature in Art – Art in Nature

The joint guided tour organised by the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Museum of Nature Hamburg brings together art education and biodiversity research, and through dialogue opens up new perspectives on art, nature and our perception of both.

When does a spider seem threatening to us, and when does it seem beautiful or even cute? And how does a spider itself perceive its environment? In this joint guided tour of the Hamburger Kunsthalle, art educator Dr Lilian Adlung-Schönheit and spider researcher Dr Danilo Harms bring their perspectives together to explore human and animal perception.

Taking selected works of art as a starting point, the tour explores colour, movement and boundaries – and the spider’s web as a fascinating sensory space. For spiders do not use their webs merely to catch prey: through the finest vibrations, they make sense of their surroundings. This dialogue between art and biology invites us to view perception from unfamiliar perspectives – and not always to trust our own eyes.

In cooperation with the Hamburger Kunsthalle.
Registration for the event will open in mid-September.
