Education and Outreach

Fossils are important aids for palaeontologists to gain an insight into past geological eras. Fossils, plants and animals can be used to draw conclusions about environmental conditions and the lifestyles of long-extinct animals. In the display collection, ammonites, fossil plants and, of course, dinosaur skeletons can be viewed. This museum talk includes an introduction to palaeontological working methods and some of the most significant fossils and fossilisation processes are presented.

Extinct 65 million years ago and still everyone knows them - dinosaurs! Sometimes vegetarians, sometimes predators, large or small: they existed in great variety. The life and death of the dinosaurs are closely examined with the help of exhibits in the exhibition. Individual topics and focal points can be discussed with the guides.

Very small, but huge. These are foraminifera. Most of us have come into contact with these microorganisms at some point, but we just don't know it. We show the habitat of foraminifera, what role these microfossils play in climate research and how they provide information about climate change.
