Encased in amber, fossils of pseudoscorpions are preserved for eternity.
Small animal very big: The pseudoscorpion, which will be on display in the Zoological Museum in the fall in 100x magnification, measures only a few millimeters. HASPA has donated a sum of 3,000 euros via LotterieSparen to the Society of Friends and Sponsors of the Zoological Museum for the creation of a vivid and detailed model.
"We are of course very grateful for this generous support," says a delighted Ulrich Kotthoff, head of the Museum of Nature - Geology at LIB. "True, there are more than 3,000 species of these arachnids and, unlike true scorpions, they are also widespread here in Central Europe. But they are hardly visible to the naked eye. Since we are currently conducting intensive research on pseudoscorpions in two departments of the LIB, I am glad that we can open an access to the world of these tiny creatures for our visitors."
LIB's paleontological collection holds million-year-old pseudoscorpions encased in amber. These objects will be on display as part of a new special exhibition in fall 2020.
