Searching for clues in the special exhibition "Indians - Lost Worlds
29 June 2018
What is truth, what is legend? Which images, which descriptions inspired Karl May - who was the model for Winnetou and Old Shatterhand? And how did the spread of the bison actually take place?
The exhibition "Indians - Lost Worlds" develops answers to these questions and separates legend from scientific evidence. Horse, bison, migratory pigeon - they all illustrate how the fauna of North America has changed over centuries and millennia. The influence of humans, indigenous peoples and white settlers, plays a major role - for they have all shaped the living environment of North America and left their ecological footprint.
The opening event, which included a guided tour, lecture and reading, demonstrated the close interconnection between the exhibition sections in the Museum of Nature Hamburg - Zoology and the Botanical Garden. With research expeditions at their core, both exhibitions focus on the relationship between humans and nature.
