Research Cooperation: International Workshop in Indonesia

Froschlarven der Art Leptobrachium abbotti. Im späteren Stadium werden die Tiere dunkler. Die Frösche sind in den subtropischen und tropischen Regionen Bruneis, Indonesiens und Malaysias zu Hause.
From 23. to 26 October a student workshop was held near Medan (Sumatra, Indonesia) on the biology and field methods to study frogs and tadpoles. Prof. Dr. Alexander Haas, head of Department of Herpetology at CeNak, was one of the lectors. With this event University of Bogor (IPB) and CeNak also conducted the first joint workshop under their Memorandum of Understanding.
In total, 29 undergraduates and lecturers participated in the training. Topics covered included taxonomic techniques such as collecting, documentation, preservation of scientific specimens, CITES and IUCN red-list, as well as citizen science project (Amfibi Reptil Kita (Go-ark)).
Participants were registering for the event from Sumatra, Kalimantan and Java. The training was sponsored and/or supported by Indonesian Society of Herpetology (PHI), University of North Sumatera (USU), Satucita Foundation (YSLI), Foundation for for Sustainable Ecosystem (YEL), Herpetologer Mania, Pelatuk Foundation, Association of Biology Student North Sumatera University, University of Bogor (IPB), Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) and University of Hamburg Center for Natural History (UHH/CeNak). With this event IPB and UHH/CeNak also conducted the first joint workshop under their Memorandum of Understanding.
Trainers and lecturers were Dr. Mirza Kusrini (IPB), Dr. Amir Hamidy (LIPI), and Prof. Dr. Alexander Haas (UHH/CeNak). Special thanks go to Joko Guntoro, Mistar Kamsi, Dr. Kaniwa Berliani (USU) the organizing committee, and all volunteers for making this excellent learning experience possible!
