Our herpetologist Alexander Haas has returned successfully from his Malaysia expedition in Feb.–March. The trip was in collaboration with the Universiti Malaysia Sarawak / Institut of Biodiversity and Environmental Conservation, as well as the Natural History Museum Bern, Switzerland.
The collaboration has been ongoing for many years with the aim to produce inventories and understand biogeographic patterns in Borneo’s (East Malaysia) frog diversity, including the study of developmental modes and larval stages (www.frogsofborneo.org).
On the recent trip, four localities could be examined. Frogs are nocturnal. Important parts of the scientific work happen at night along streams and trails.
Alexander Haas is confident that the recent trip has yielded species new to science. The investigation, including molecular genetics, to prove this, including molecular genetics, is ongoing.
