Why are corals so important for our oceans? How do coral reefs form - and why are they under threat? In our series of lectures accompanying the exhibition "Corals - a play of colours in art and science", researchers provide exciting insights into their work.
Almost everyone knows corals - right? In his lecture, Prof Dr Schmidt-Rhaesa, curator at the Museum für Natur Hamburg, takes us on an exciting journey through the world of these fascinating creatures. We will take a look at the structure of corals and the formation of coral reefs, compare different growth forms and look at the relationships between corals. Many corals are endangered because they are popular as jewellery or decoration. There is also the threat of "coral bleaching" due to rising sea temperatures. We cordially invite you to learn more about these animals and their habitat, which are worth protecting. We look forward to your visit!
There will be another evening lecture on the special exhibition "Corals - play of colours in art and science" in English(!) on 03.07.2025 from 18:30, to the evening lecture in English
