A premiere in Hamburg with our Director General Bernhard Misof and Katrin Vohland, Director General of the Natural History Museum in Vienna. On Biodiversity Day, Thursday 22 May 2025 at 6 pm, the Abaton cinema in Hamburg will be showing the film "Archive of the Future" for the first time. In his film, screenwriter and director Joerg Bruger shows the Natural History Museum Vienna in all its facets and how it is constantly changing.
Like a tour, the film opens up the institution, especially those places that remain invisible during a regular museum visit: Here, a recently deceased lion is brought in for taxidermy or the position of a dinosaur is adapted to the current state of research. Elsewhere, the Venus of Willendorf is digitised or a prehistoric grave, including cremation, is recreated.
Layer by layer, the film reveals the tasks, responsibilities and possibilities of a museum. Director and cameraman Joerg Burger shows the museum as a place where the physical work on the object always goes hand in hand with questions of knowledge and organisation.
The human species - as the supposed observer and knower - becomes visible in its relationship to animals, nature and history.
Tickets are available directly from the Abaton.
